This photo is of my Grandpa. Whenever my parents weren’t around to take care of me and my sister, we went to my grandparents house. I always loved going over there as a kid, and I still get that same excitement in me when I go over there now. My grandpa is one of the most kind people I know. He’s always trying to make people laugh by telling jokes, even during a solemn time. So, in exchange for him trying to make us laugh, I try to make him laugh. I like to think that most times, I’m pretty successful. I took these photos on a porch swing in my grandparents backyard. I didn’t want to make them walk far anywhere, so I looked for a simple background, or something that could be cropped to avoid background noise. I felt accomplished taking this photo because the four intersection points are focused on my grandfather. I tried to have very little background noise because I think that portrait photos should mainly focus on the person. This is why the background behind my grandpa is relatively simple. There are no complex patterns, or lines, just my grandfather’s face.
